PRODUCTION OF NF CHEMICALS FOR ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS AGENCY,

Abstract

As part of a program directed by the Advanced Research Projects Agency for the evaluation of several novel energetic chemicals in solid propellants, Rohm and Haas Redstone Research Laboratories produced about 245 pounds of the difluoramino compounds, 2,3-bis(difluoramino) propyl acrylate (NFPA), 2,3-bis(difluoramino) propyl methylacrylate (NFPMA), and 1,2,3-tris(alpha,beta-bis(difluoramino)ethoxy) propane (TVOPA). These materials were then supplied to several other organizations for evaluation as solid propellant ingredients. Safe methods of manufacturing and handling these materials were developed. The pilot plant processes developed for producing these chemicals can be scaled up to much higher production rates.
