ADVANCED PROPELLANT SYNTHESIS.

Abstract

A continuous process for the preparation of geminal bis(difluoramino) compounds from ketones an difluoraminosulfonic acid has been designed and successfully tested. Possible routes to nylon-6 type polymers containing geminal bis(difluoramino) functions in the polymer backbone are outlined. For plasticizer and burning-rate studies, a tetrakis (difluoramino) furoxan was prepared. The tetrafluorohydrazine adduct of isopropenyl carborane has been found to be a burning-rate additive superior to n-butylferrocene in several respects. Attempts to prepare diazirines incorporating groups that might enhance burning-rates were not successful. Both dipropargyl nitrosamine and dipropargyl nitramine were found to be additives that enhanced burning-rates.
