DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE AN/SSQ-46(XN-1) SONOBUOY TO PILOT PRODUCTION.

Abstract

The development of the AN/SSQ-46(XN-1) Sonobuoy began with a study of the concepts of fuze ruggedization techniques applied to sonobuoys, of unrestrictive free-fall ballistic delivery, and of complete disclosures to permit rapid multiple source procurement without redesign. These concepts were applied to the development of a completely transistorized, deep, line-hydrophone type miniature buoy now undergoing operational evaluation. The technical history of the development is covered in this report. (Author)
