OZONE FEASIBILITY STUDY.

Abstract

Adiabatic U-tube tests have been completed on an extensive series of ozone solutions. Apparatus and test method for the CD studies have been developed into a smoothly operating though rigorously detailed procedure. Projected studies on 3 component ozone solutions have been completed and it is expected that tests on 2 component solutions will be finished very shortly. Measurement of the physical properties of the various ozone solutions is in progress. Calculations are presented for the critical pressure, specific impulse, and mixture ratio with hydrogen of mixtures of solubilized ozone and oxygen containing 20 - 65% ozone. Using these calculations, rocket parameters such as propellant flow rates, flow velocities, friction factor, Reynold's number and pressure drops under various conditions have been calculated for various line diameters and thrust levels. An example of how to use the tables to select test conditions is included. Small scale burner tests have been conducted successfully and without incident. (Author)
