AN ANALYSIS OF THE REDEYE SYSTEM WITH SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR TRAINING.

Abstract

This report is designed to serve a three-fold purpose. It is designed to provide information, thought to be helpful in REDEYE training, to personnel who will plan and conduct such training. Also it is designed to provide general information about the REDEYE system that may be helpful to commanders of units with REDEYE teams. Finally, it may provide a basis for specific research directed toward REDEYE human factors problems. Four content areas are covered in this report. REDEYE system characteristics are discussed in the first major section. The second major section consists of a discussion and review of REDEYE employment doctrine covering weapon assignment, siting and use procedures. The third section is devoted to a discussion of several facets of REDEYE training and presents several suggestions for the planning and conduct of this training. The last section discusses two human factors problem areas of the REDEYE system where satisfactory resolution has not yet been achieved. Some of the factors involved in an effective training program for any system are discussed in the Appendix. The concepts presented have evolved from a number of HumRRO training research studies conducted over a period of several years.
