MAN-PACK RADAR.

Abstract

The Man-Pack Radar Program was undertaken to develop a lightweight highly transportable aircraft search radar. The General Electric radar is one of three such radars, having been selected for its simplicity of design and operation. This radar did not live up to expectations as a search radar, having fallen short of the range requirements and showing a tendency to be unreliable. Following the redirection of the project, the radar was redesigned and now fully meets the new requirements. Based on the redirected objectives for this project, the radar was accepted as a test vehicle and will be evaluated to determine the capabilities of L band for foliage penetration. (Author)
