PRELIMINARY PLANT DESIGN AND COST ESTIMATE FOR PRODUCTION OF TVOPA AND NFPA POLYMER,

Abstract

The preliminary design of a plant to produce NFPA copolymer and TVOPA to support a 300,000-lbm-per-month propellant rate showed that scale-up to these production rates is feasible. However, much additional development work is needed to optimize the plant design. The capital investment cost for the plant, exclusive of land, buildings, general utilities, and propellant line, was estimated, and the plant operating cost was estimated. The use of NFPA and TVOPA as propellant ingredients would add about 85% to the cost of a typical low-performance solid propellant motor.
