TORPEDO-TUBE TYPE-BK LOW-FREQUENCY SONAR TRANSDUCER.

Abstract

Six Model IX transducers -- designed to fit a standard torpedo tube and operate most effectively near the outer end with the sea door open -- are nearing completion at NEL. Three versions will be available. The Mark 1, with 1/2-inch thrust, is suited for medium power in the 10-to-50-c/s band; the Mark 2, with 1/4-inch thrust -- which provides omnidirectional output of 10 acoustic watts in steady-state operation -- for medium power throughout the 30-to-300-c/s band; and the Mark 3, with 1/8-inch thrust, for medium power in the band above 80 c/s.
