EVALUATION OF A HIGH-ENERGY BINDER.

Abstract

Work was continued on the formulation and sensitivity of AlH3 propellants. Higher solids loadings of both AlH3 and AP appear to give a less impact sensitive propellant than was obtained at the previously tested low solids loadings. It appears possible that a polyfunctional isocyanate such as CTI can replace the present cure system to avoid the use of hexanetriol as a cross-linker. Surveillance data show that the aluminized PBEP system with stabilizers can be stored at 35 C for long periods of time without significant deterioration. Lots of PBEP under cold storage for over 1 year can still be cured to give propellant with good tensile properties. (Author)
