HIGH TEMPERATURE SYNTHESIS.

Abstract

This research is directed towards synthesis of new high energy oxidizers based on -ONF2 chemistry. Reactions of mixtures of pentafluoromethoxyamine, CF3ONF2, and tetrafluorohydrazine, N2F4, were initiated thermally and with ultraviolet light. In both cases CF3ONF2 was more stable than N2F4. No products were isolated from reaction between the two. The thermal reaction of CF3ONF2 and O2 produced a mixture whose mass spectrum showed peaks corresponding to the presence of a novel NOF compound. Purifications of CF3ONF2 by scrubbing with water introduced N2O as a new impurity. (Author)
