RESEARCH IN HIGH-ENERGY OXIDIZERS.

Abstract

The perfluoroformamide-KF system was found to give the complexes KOCF(NF2)2 and KOC(NF2)3. From these a new synthesis of tetrafluorourea evolved. The electrochemical oxidation of KOCF2NF2 to generate N2F4 has been demonstrated, and preliminary polarization data have been obtained. The chemistry of difluoroaminoxy-carbonyl fluoride was studied with respect to its fluorination and condensation reactions. The fluorination of KOCF2NF2 did not give FOCF2NF2; however, with IF7 and N2F4, KOCF2NF2 gave a small amount of NF2OCF2NF2. Iodine heptafluoride did not convert carboxylates to bis-fluoroxy compounds. It was found that K3FCO3 is a double salt and not an addition compound; its fluorination did not give CF(0F)3. A new synthesis of CH3NF2 evolved from (CH3CO)2O and N2F4 photolysis. (Author)
