Research on Advanced Oxidizers Having Kinetically Derived Stability.

Abstract

The synthesis of salts of the composition ClF6(+)BiF6(-)xBiF5 and in particular ClF6(+)Bi2F11(-) has been achieved by high temperature and pressure fluorinations. The products have been characterized by elemental analysis and by comparison of infrared, x-ray, and nmr spectroscopic data, thermal stability and chemical reactivity behavior with that of the ClF2(+)BiF6(-) and ClF4(+)BiF6(-) salts. Evidence was also obtained for another new oxidizer cation, possibly of the form ClFxOy(+) or ClO3(+).
