A LOW-NOISE, MULTIPLE-FUNCTION, X-BAND TRAVELING WAVE TUBE

Abstract

The major effort was expended in the experimental evaluations of the design approaches proposed for obtaining a simple, but reliable, tube design meeting the program objectives. Emphasis was placed upon the compression- sheath-supported helix structures and associated transducer systems, the magnetic circuits, the limiter-section design parameters, and the video- detection circuitry. While some design refinements are still contemplated, the over-all final tube design has been established and will now be evaluated in hybrid glass-metal-ceramic structures and also completely integrated metal ceramic structures. Meanwhile, metal-ceramic technology studies, aimed at simplifying and increasing the reliability of the seals, continues. In addition, the final tube design pack aging is being worked out and necessary vendor provided parts are being ordered in preparation for the fabrication of the ten tubes desired.
