METHODS OF MICROANALYSIS, VIb OXYGEN DETERMINA TION; EVALUATION OF THE MAGNESIUM NITRIDE METHOD FOR FLUORINE-CONTAINING COMPOUNDS

Abstract

Fluorine causes the most serious interference with oxygen determination of all the elements en countered. Inserting Mg3N2 in the pyrolysis tube to eliminate this interference has been recom mended. It was found necessary to modify the method given for preparing Mg3N2 to obtain any appreciable yield. Mg3N2 applied as recommended or with modifications does not reduce appreciably the F interference in direct oxygen determina tions. The Pt pyrolysis tube method devised will be further developed as a means of deter mining oxygen in fluorine-containing compounds.
