SOME APPLICATIONS OF OPERATIONS RESEARCH TO PROBLEMS OF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

Abstract

The use of quantitative analytical techniques in decision-making with regard to the problems of developing countries is suggested. Some con tributions are: raising and tightening the level of discussion preceding decisions; uncovering and clarifying the alternative choices that are available; and focusing conscious attention on the policy 'values' or preferences that are implicit in a particular choice by making ex plicit the foregone benefits associated with the available alternatives.
