THE NATURE OF HETEROSIS AND METHODS OF ITS UTILI ZATION IN PLANT SELECTION,

Abstract

The comparative study of simple and triple corn hybrids revealed that the crossbred vigor depends chiefly upon the heterozygosis level and this background provides a play for the activity of the dominant factors. The general combination value of the line is determined by the content of the dominant factors which are revealed only in the hybrid owing to the removal of the inbred depression. The specific combination value of the line is determined by the other line. On the basis oabove cited considerations there is a possibility to predict and estimate the value of a triple and double hybrid in accord ance with the indices of simple hybrides. (Author)
