EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIMATION OF SLIP AND TEMPERA TURE JUMP IN A FLOW OF RAREFIED AIR AROUND A SOLID WALL,

Abstract

This article reports the results of experimental investigations of rarefied gases which show that the classical theory of gas dynamics in the Navier-Stokes approximation is correct for a wider range of conditions than that for which it was constructed. In this regard, some results are presented of investigations into the phenom ena of slip and temperature jump, phenomena asso ciated with the transfer of momentum and energy in the boundary layer of a rarefied gas.
