OPTIMUM APERTURE STUDY

Abstract

The applicability is studied of the Wiener Spencer Theorem to antennas. This theorem states that minimum standard deviation of the far-field pattern occurs when the illumination function corresponds to the lowest mode of vibration of a membrane stretched across the aperture opening. The investigation of four selected nonoptimum illuminations for the elliptical aperatures is presented. Approximations are used to obtain expressions for far-field power patterns, and second moments are tabulated. In addition, illuminations and far-field power patterns are plotted.
