Further Development of Ductile Tungsten-Base Sheet Alloy

Abstract

Ternary alloys containing 5 percent rhenium in combination with ThOz inert oxide dispersions were prepared to determine the limits of fabric ability for oxide contents between 4 and 7 volume percent. Results from this initial work indicated that good work-ability persists to at least the 5 volume per cent level of either ThO2 or ZrO2. A group of doped but otherwise unalloyed tungsten powders was prepared to evaluate the effect of alkali silicate additives on the recrystallization behavior of tungsten sheet.
