DAMPING OF MATERIALS UNDER BIAXIAL STRESS

Abstract

A new theory of combined stress damping is developed and evaluated on the basis of experimental results for several materials. It is concluded that the new theory should be limited in applica tion to materials whose dominant damping mechanism is known to be plastic deformation. It appears that a separate theory of combined stress damping may be required for each mechanism of damping.
