THE EQUILIBRIUM BETWEEN PEROXYDISULFURYL DIFLUORIDE AND FLUOROSULFATE FREE RADICALS

Abstract

Peroxydisulfuryl difluoride and fluorosulfate free radicals were shown to exist in equilibrium below 600 K. The temperature dependence of pressure at constant volume was used to calculate a series of K sub p values between 450 and 600 K. This method indicated an enthalpy change of 22.1 kcal/mole whereas a spectrophotometric method based on the temperature dependence of the ab sorption of the fluo-ulfate radical at 474 millimicrons, gave an enthalpy change of 23.5 kcal/mole.
