MIE SCATTERING AND ABSORPTION CROSS SECTIONS OF ALUMINUM OXIDE AND MAGNESIUM OXIDE

Abstract

The scattering and absorption of electromagnetic radiation by spherical particles of aluminum oxide and magnesium oxide is calculated from the Mie theory. The complex index of refraction was taken from the best available experimental data. Tables of the efficiency factors for scattering, absorption, and extinction are given for particle radii from 0.1 to 5.1 microns and a range of wavelengths from 0.5 to 10 microns.
