AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF HEAT TRANSFER AT HIGH TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCES IN TURBULENT AIR FLOW BETWEEN A ROTATING CYLINDER AND A STATIONARY CONCENTRIC OUTER CYLINDER

Abstract

A study was made of convective heat transfer between a rotating cylinder and a stationary, concentric outer cylinder for the Taylor number range 2000 to 9000, and for rotor surface temperatures in the range 80 to 430 F. Measurements were made of over-all heat transfer, and velocity and temperature distributions in the gap between the two cylinders. A hot wire anemometer was used to determine whether secondary flows exist in the gap in the Taylor number range of the investigation.
