RADIOSONDE SET AN/DMQ-6

Abstract

Engineering flight tests were made on a system which included Radiosonde Set AN/DMQ-6, the ARCAS rocket, and Rawin Set AN/GMD-2. Temperature data were obtained with rod thermistors and bead thermistors. Data were obtained on a high-altitude hypsometer pressure sensor under development. Wind data were obtained and evaluated, and altitude data derived from the AN/DMQ- 6 and Rawin Set AN/GMD-2 were compared with those obtained with the AN/FPS-16 radar. The altitude layer over which the data were obtained was between 80,000 and 210,000 feet. The test procedure used was that described in USASRDL technical Report 2171. Analysis of data obtained indicates useful temperature and wind-data to 190,000 feet. Altitude data showed agreement within one percent or better with radar data.
