RESEARCH ON MICROWAVE WINDOW MULTIPACTOR AND ITS INHIBITION

Abstract

An experimental Study is presented in two phases of electron bombardment phenomena at the output RF windows of high power microwave tubes. Phase 1. Experimental and analytical study of multipactor effects at waveguide windows under high power conditions. Phase 2. Development and application of evaporation coatings and techniques applied to the window and surrounding metal parts in order to reduce secondary emission coefficient to less than unity. Also presented in two phases is a study of the inner-window surface and configurations affecting power handling capabilities of high power microwave tubes. Phase 1. Analysis of various means of obtaining space and phase defocusing of electrons by shaping the fields and window surfaces. Phase 2. Study of materials and coatings in conjunction with shaped fields to develop windows capable of handling higher powers without multipactor.
