COMPUTER ANALYSIS OF TWO-STAGE HYPERVELOCITY MODEL LAUNCHERS

Abstract

A computer study for predicting high-speed launcher performance was conducted using a one dimensional hydrodynamics computer code. This computer code uses the Lagrangian scheme, and is based on the 'q' method as devised by Von Neumann and Richtmyer. These calculations provide under standing for the proper variation of the launcher parameters for optimization of launcher perform ance. A series of calculations for the 2-in. Two-Stage Hypervelocity Model Launcher, which is in use in the NOL 1,000-ft. Hyperballistics Range No. 4, are presented and are compared with the actual performance of the launcher.
