SOVIET STUDY OF ARBITRARY NORMAL SECTION ON ROTATION ELLIPSOID,

Abstract

An investigation is made of the 'arbitrary normal section', i.e. the section passing through the two given points and normal in a certain third point. The given curve is a generalization of the usually considered mutually perpendicular sections and a central curve. The generalized formulas are found from which (as a particular case), the appropriate formulas are derived for the direct and converse normal sections, and also for the central curve. An arbitrary normal sec tion can be used successfully in the solution of major geodetic problems.
