SPECTROSCOPIC STUDIES USING FOURIER TRANSFORMATIONS(RECHERCHES SUR LA SPECTROSCOPIE PAR TRANSFORMATION DE FOURIER)

Abstract

The use of the Michelson interferometer for spectroscopy in the infrared is considered and the following are discussed: Fourier analysis of the interferogram using high-speed digital computers and analog methods, instrumental errors, analysis of noise and procedures for attaining maximum s/n ratios, specific applications to night sky spectrometry in the micron to 1.6 micron region as well as to the re-emission spectrum of germanium, and comparison of this method with those using classical spectroscopic instruments.
