A Study of Ionospheric Irregularities

Abstract

An account is given of theories and experiments designed to investigate the irregular structure of the ionosphere by studying the correlation between radio waves reflected at closely spaced frequencies. Several different models are con structed of the ionosphere, and the relation between observable quantities on the ground and the properties of the ionospheric irregularities are derived. A set of experiments on reflections from the F-layer at closely spaced frequencies is described and the results of the observations are discussed in relation to the results above. A detailed description is given of the equipment used in the observations.
