WETTABILITY OF ALUMINUM OXIDE AND CARBIDES BY METALS OF THE IRON GROUP,

Abstract

There was obtained the dependency of surface ten sion, the contact angle of wetting, the work of adhesion, and the interphase tensions of the alloys Ni-Mo and Co-W on the hard surface Al2O3. Addition of tungsten and molybdenum up to 10 atom percent ed wettability of aluminum oxide by nickel and cobalt. Titanium carbide is not com pletely wetted by nickel. The dependency of the contact angle of wetting by nickel of carbides of the system TiC-WC that was obtained showed that solid solution WC-TiC twophase compositions, having structurally free tungsten carbide, are wetted better.
