AN INVESTIGATION OF PLASMA EM RADIATION INTERACTION.

Abstract

A study, by two different techniques, was made of the nonequilibrium behavior of an ionized gas whose constituent particles interact through the Coulomb potential and through the transverse modes of the electromagnetic field. The Bogoliubov approach to the study of a many body system was applied to an ionized gas. The governing Hamiltonian contains the Coulomb potential and the first nonvanishing contribution of the transverse electromagnetic field in an expansion in powers of the reciprocal speed of light. The diagram method of Prigogine and Balescu was applied to the full system Hamiltonian. The class of diagrams representing the linear electromagnetic field terms and the quadratic electromagnetic field terms in the Hamiltonian were identified and analyzed for their parameter dependence.
