BEHAVIORAL CORRELATES OF HUMAN ELECTROENCEPHALOG RAPHIC ACTIVITY: ALPHA PHASE, REACTION TIME AND BRIGHTNESS JUDGMENT,

Abstract

This report describes a series of attempts to determine the mechanisms relating alpha phase and behavior beginning with the classic excita bility cycle theory. Earlier work indicated that alpha phase influenced visual reaction time but did not so early in the course of neural events leading from sense organ to response. This suggested that if an excitability cycle existed, it would be quite peripheral and hence might also be expected to influence brightness judgment. There followed a series of studies which will be presented. (Author)
