RECEIVER OPTIMIZATION FOR A HEIGHT INDICATING SYSTEM,

Abstract

A method is presented for determining an optimum set of parameters for a CW doppler radar receiver whose function is to give an output at a particular height above ground. The receiver consists of an input filter, amplifier with AGC, squared-law device, output filter, and threshold device. Optimization is achieved by establishing a figure of merit for the system and establishing that a best figure of merit can be found by variation of the receiver parameters. It is also shown that a knowledge of the magnitude of the input signal and noise is important for successful optimization. (Author)
