THE GUIDE WAVELENGTH OF CYLINDRICAL WAVEGUIDE OF ARBITRARY CROSS SECTION AND A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR CALCULATING VALUES,

Abstract

A method based on the variational principle is given for determining the cutoff wavelength of a waveguide whose cross-section configuration is arbitrary within the bounds of certain restrictions. A number of values were calculated for some of the more common waveguides and are shown. The results should be accurate to four significant figures except for the ridge waveguide where the assumed field configuration is in poor agreement with the actual field. In addition, a FORTRAN program for the IBM 7090 computer is given. (Author)
