SLENDER BODY NEAR WAKE DENSITY MEASUREMENTS AT MACH NUMBERS THIRTEEN AND EIGHTEEN,

Abstract

The flows behind slender bodies moving at hyper sonic speeds were studied. One region where both theoretical and experimental difficulties are encountered is immediately downstream of the body base-the part of the flow referred to as the near wake. Density measurements were made behind a 3/4 power law body at Mach 13 and 18. The density measurements were used together with calculated pressures to estimat e enthalpies for the near wakes generated in the experiments. The tests were conducted in nitrogen, and at relatively low stagnation enthalpies. (Author)
