STUDY OF ADVANCED SCANNING METHODS, VOL. 1 DIFFRACTION IMAGING GRATING TECHNIQUES.

Abstract

Derivations of axial and off-axis diffraction patterns of Fresnel zone plates are presented. These derivations are solved by an IBM 1620 computer and verified by visual and photographic experiments. Discrepancies in existing theory are discussed and resolved. Main features of the patterns are described, including the imaging and filtering capability of the zone plate gratings. Problems incurred in computation procedures are discussed at length. Potential construction techniques are described for manufacturing high quality zone plates, and construction equations and tolerances derived. Other focusing gratings are briefly described. Conclusions and recommendations are presented for continuing the analytical, computational, and experimental work. (Author)
