ON REPEATING A DIGITAL MESSAGE TO INCREASE THE PROBABILITY OF CORRECT RECEPTION,

Abstract

The theoretical aspects are considered relative to the repetition of messages as a means of er ror detection and correction, where, on the average, less than 50% of the digits received are in error, and reception reliability is obtained at the expense of a lower data rate. Two repe tition schemes, fixed and sequential, are con sidered, and applicable formulae are derived. Comparison is made of such repetition schemes with more sophisticated techniques, e.g., those involving optimum coding. (Author)
