RECEPTION OF SKYWAVE SIGNALS NEAR A COASTLINE

Abstract

An experimental investigation is described on the influence of ground inhomogeneities on the reception of skywave signals, especially the influence of the conductivity contrast near a coastline. This gives rise to a rapid decrease in field-strength near the coastline as is well known from groundwave mixed-path theory. Comparison with theory is given. Influence of diffuse reflection from the ionosphere is also considered.
