INELASTIC LATERAL-TORSIONAL BUCKLING OF BEAM-COLUMNS,

Abstract

In this report a method is presented for the determination of the inelastic lateral-torsional buckling strength of as-rolled steel wide-flange beam-columns. The beam-columns are subjected to an axial force and to bending moments applied at one end only. The end-moments cause bending about the strong axis of the members, and the effects of initial residual stresses are included in the analysis. The solutions are obtained on the basis of a finite difference approximation of the differential equations with variable coefficients, the resulting characteristic determinant being solved numerically by a digital computer.
