ON THE COMPARISON OF THE MEANS OF TWO POPULATIONS WITH UNKNOWN VARIANCES.

Abstract

Tis is a study of the problem of the comparison of the means of two populations with unknown variances using the method of ''Approximate Degrees of Freedom.'' A modified version of the Welch method is given for the univariate situation, and an extension is given for the general multivariate situation. These methods are then compared with the asymptotic series solution with respect to their significance levels. (Author)
