ON THE DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF THIN CYLINDRICAL SHELLS TO IMPULSIVE LOADING,

Abstract

This paper contains the development of the theory required to study the large displacements of thin, cylindrical shells in the postbuckling region under impulsive loading. An approximate energy analysis is postulated in which the Lagrangian equations of motion are derived, based on an assumed number of degrees of-freedom for the shell. These governing equations are established within the framework of the large displacement theory for cylindrical shells, based on the Kirchkoff-Love and smallstrains assumptions. The formulation of the equations of motion and initial conditions for cylindrical panels are presented in nondimensional form. (Author)
