SOME FUNDAMENTALS OF INFRARED TECHNOLOGY AND INFRARED DATA REDUCTION ON THE ATLANTIC MISSILE RANGE,

Abstract

A survey of fundamental infrared technology centered around the AMR Infrared Measurements Program is presented with primary emphasis on basic radiometric concepts and the reduction of raw infrared data to radiometric quantities. The primary purpose is to provide a training aid and reference for data reduction personnel engaged in and/or training for the reduction of infrared data. Accordingly, basic principles are stressed beginning with a review of fundamental physical quantities and units. Since the AMR Infrared Measurements Program Instrumentation Systems have not reached operational status, their descriptions, which are based on reports published in 1961, are not definitive and the reductions are presented as methods which are subject to change.
