MINIMIZATION PROCEDURES IN PHONOLOGY,

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the problem of determining the largest set of features that can be collectively eliminated from a distinctive feature matrix, independent of context. A method is presented for obtaining a single maximal set of features or all such maximal sets. A solution to the problem of reintroducing the redundant features by means of minimal rewriting rules is also presented. (Author)
