RADIATION FROM A DIPOLE IN AN INFINITE, HOMOGENEOUS, ANISOTROPIC PLASMA,

Abstract

A previously derived solution is specialized here to the study of the radiation field due to an electric current dipole in an infinitely extend ed, homogeneous anisotropic plasma. The asymptotic field solution is interpreted in terms of rays along which energy propagates from the source to the observation point. The number of contributing rays, varying from zero to four, depends on the constitutive parameters and is determined by the refractive index curves for the medium. Special attention is given to transition phenomena associated with refractive index curves which have points of inflection or unbounded branches. A set of representative radiation patterns has been calculated. (Author)
