ON DETERMINATION OF THE OPTICAL ABSORPTION COEFFICIENT,

Abstract

The equation for the optical absorption coeffi cient alpha in terms of the transmission and reflection coefficients T and R is derived. In addition, a computer program is described for the calculation of the absorption coefficient and optical constants either from the combination of reflection and transmission coefficients or from transmission experiments on two samples of dif ferent thicknesses. A set of tables of alpha d where d is the sample thickness, as a function of T in intervals of 0.2% for parameters of R in 0.5% iuded. Both R and T values range be tween 0 percent and 100 percent.
