DC ELECTROLUMINESCENCE IN MANGANESE-ACTIVATED ALUMINUM-OXIDE FILMS,

Abstract

A semiquantitative investigation of the bright green electroluminescence displayed by manganeseactivated aluminum anodic films is presented. Investigation shows that this type of dc electroluminescence does not seem to occur in the 'dry' state, but rather depends upon an aqueous environment. Best results are obtained with a sodium borate electrolyte, but other solutions also produce the effect. A study with other activators reveals that the bright green emission is apparently characteristic of manganese and aluminum oxide. (Author)
