RESEARCH INVESTIGATIONS LEADING TO THE DEVELOP MENT AND EVALUATION OF A CADMIUM - SILVER OXIDE BATTERY HAVING A HERMETICALLY SEALED CONSTRUCTION.

Abstract

Investigations directed toward the attainment of a reliable sealed cadmium-silver oxide battery continue. Data on the development of both cadmium divalent and monovalent silver oxide sys tems and their subsequent performance char acteristics are being accumulated. Recent find ings of particular importance include the fact that cells, which had failed life-cycling tests due to reversal, can be reconditioned by repeated cycling at low rates of charge. Excel lent retention-of-charge characteristics of the cadmium-silver monoxide system below 80 F have been demonstrated. Charge retention of 87% of full capacity after six months storage at 80 F has been obtained, while still better results were achieved at lower temperatures of storage. (Author)
