DENSITY IN HYDROSTATIC ATMOSPHERES,

Abstract

A theoretical and numerical analysis was made of factors determining the height of the level of constant atmospheric density (isopycnic level) above any base. The physical relationship be tween this level and the level of maximum per cent departure from standard of density is given. While the atmospheres considered in the numerical analysis approximate the Earth's troposphere, the resulting figures, if used in conjunction with the developed theory, may be considered indica tive of the behavior of hydrostatic atmospheres in general.
