AN AUTOMATIC GRINDER FOR PRODUCING HELICAL-GROUND FORM-RELIEVED RIFLING BROACHES,

Abstract

A grinding attachment has been developed and adapted to a standard thread grinder, making the machine capable of automatically producing helical-ground, form-relieved, rifling broaches. Included are the requirements leading to the selection of a specific machine and the concept of this attachment. Also included are detailed explanations, with sketches, of the various parts and operations of this machine along with recommendations for improvements in subsequent machines. The report shows the acceptability of broaches produced on this machine and possible savings to be realized by lowered requirements for operator skill and reduction in machining time and in broach maintenance.
