PROJECT VELA FINAL TECHNICAL REPORT

Abstract

Design of a prototype antenna system for use in detecting nuclear explosions by means of a backscatter technique is discussed. All antenna systems and techniques known to the art were studied and the type of antenna which should be used with a backscatter detection system was determined. Separate antenna systems for trans mitting and receiving may be necessary and will be permissible. A model or models was constructed and antenna characteristics were measured. Drawings and specifications are not intended for production but should be adequate for construc tion of a prototype by an antenna manufacturer.
